Our Robotics team, the Cocobots, recently participated in the FIRST Global Olympics-style robotics competition in Athens, a prestigious event that brings together young innovators from around the globe. Out of 180 teams from around the world, we proudly placed 60th. While this wasn’t the top spot, our team’s hard work, collaboration, and creativity were on full display throughout the competition.

However, the most exciting part of our journey came unexpectedly. We were randomly selected to join an alliance with the teams from China, Moldova, and Madagascar. Despite coming from diverse cultural and technical backgrounds, our alliance united with one shared goal: to work together to win.
The alliance was a chance to turn challenges into opportunities. We quickly adapted to new strategies, combined our unique strengths, and built strong team dynamics in just a short time. This experience taught us that success doesn’t just come from winning—it comes from collaborating, learning from others, and giving our best effort. Check out our Matches in the Gallery.

In the final round, our alliance triumphed and won gold, a moment of pride that none of us will ever forget. This historic gold win at the FIRST Global Robotics Competition marks a groundbreaking achievement for the Cook Islands, showcasing our nation’s potential on the world stage in STEM innovation and collaboration.

Team Mentors Jim and Mii Nimerota were blown away by the performance of the students under the immense pressure and strain of the three days of competition. “This win isn’t just about robotics—it’s about proving that even a small nation like the Cook Islands can compete and succeed at the highest level. It’s a testament to the talent, determination, and spirit of our youth and our commitment to advancing STEM education in the Cook Islands.” Mii Nimerota.
We’d like to thank everyone who supported us on this journey—our mentors, sponsors, and community. This achievement isn’t just for us; it’s for all the young minds who dream of turning their passion for technology and innovation into something extraordinary.

What’s next for us? As we celebrate this win, we’re also preparing to share what we’ve learned with the next generation of robotics enthusiasts. If you’re curious about STEM education or want to get involved in robotics, reach out—we’d love to help spark your journey!
